– Standing Orders & Policies

What are Standing Orders?

Standing Orders are the rules that govern how a Council should operate.

The Standing Orders help the Council run smoothly and outline the regulations of business and detail how meetings should be run. Within the Standing Orders you should find the rules of debate, order of business, conduct at meetings and the rules for the Annual Meeting of the Council. Some Standing Orders are compulsory, they are in bold text meaning that they cannot be altered or ignored.  Others are in standard text and can be ignored at the discretion of the Chair.
