Haylands and Swanmore Tea and History Morning

Saint Michael’s Church will host another ‘Haylands History’ on Saturday 7th November between 10am and 12.00pm.  The event will focus on WWI and WWII, and local residents are invited to bring along photographs and memorabilia and share stories of life in this part of Ryde all those years ago.  It will be a chance to commemorate family, friends and neighbours lost in two World Wars and to catch up on Haylands’ news past and present over a free cup of ‘proper’ coffee or tea along with plenty of cake and conversation.

Christmas Fair

The 5th Ryde Scouts will be holding a Christmas Fair on Saturday 21st November at the Eric Warner Centre, St John’s Road, Ryde, between 10am and 3pm.

Halloween Fest!

A free family Halloween event will be held at Appley Park between 4pm and 9pm on 31 October to raise money for Headway – the brain injury charity for children. There will be apple bobbing, pumpkin carving and a Grand Finale Halloween Show.

Lottery Fund Helps Coastal Communities Programme

Ryde Town Council has been awarded £2,000 by the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce to spend on public realm improvements in the town. The Town Council has also agreed to match fund this award with a total of £4,000 being added to the grant of £10,000 recently received from the Coastal Communities Fund. The monies will be used to enhance local infrastructure and make the town as attractive as possible to residents and visitors alike.

Local History Group Honoured

Following the announcement of Historic Ryde Society being given The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in June, the Society was delighted to welcome Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant, Deputy Lieutenants and other dignitaries and friends to the presentation in The Royal Victoria Arcade. This took place on the evening of Thursday, October 1, 2015. Guests included the artists who painted the pictures currently installed in the rotunda of the arcade, as well as actors who participated in the Royal Victorian Ryde 2011 weekend, which marked the 175th anniversary of the opening of the building in 1836.
