– Ryde town centre pavement to be improved.

Two sections of paving in Ryde Town Centre are to be replaced by Island Roads shortly.

The work will be carried out in two areas identified as needing improvement following skid resistance testing. These stretches are the eastern side of the High Street between the walkway to the Co-op car park and Holland and Barratt and the nearby stretch of St Thomas’s Square between Church Street and Union Street.
The project is scheduled to last up to four weeks but could be completed in less time if ground and weather conditions are favourable. Pedestrian access to all businesses and residential properties will remain at all times. Two way traffic lights will also be in operation when and where required.
Businesses and residents directly affected by the work will receive letters explaining the scheme and also a visit from the Scheme engineer and Ryde district steward who will be able to answer any questions or queries.
The proposed works will include taking up and removing from site the existing natural limestone paving slabs and then repaving the footway with textured precast concrete flag paving. The new paving slabs have been carefully selected so that they closely match the existing paving in appearance.
Under the highways PFI contract, Island Roads is required to ensure all roads and footways are maintained at agreed standards.
It is anticipated the work will begin early October.
