– Warning – Brown Tail Moth Caterpillar

There have been reports of Brown Tail moth caterpillars on the Island.  Once touched these caterpillars can cause extreme skin and eye irritation, swelling, breathing difficulties and rashes. Children are particularly vulnerable to the effects.

In most cases the discomfort will last for a few hours, washing the affected area with water may ease the itching. The effects may also worsen symptoms of asthma for some people.

You should seek medical advice from your pharmacist or GP if symptoms do not settle down within a few hours.

Please avoid touching these catrepillars and report to the IW Council if found.
